"I don't believe Donald J. Trump is a racist."

Dr. Alveda King

It appears President Trump having kicked Omarosa to the curb has a new spokesperson. Unfortunately, she happens to be the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose birthday we celebrated on Monday. I say unfortunately only because I fear that people will give her more credence than she deserves simply because her last name is King. Be that as it may.

When I started this blog I promised that there would be no sacred cows. So with all due respect to the memory of a great man his niece is being played - big time. Not a sell out but another buy-in. I said it before, I'll say it again we all have the right to our own opinion but not to our own facts. I will begin by allowing Ms. King to present her case.

Ms. King chose to appear on the Trump Network (aka Fox News Network) on Trump's favorite program Fox & Friends. Just for the record Fox & Friends is not now and has never been a news program. It is not produced by Fox's news division and even the network calls it infotainment.

But let's look at Ms. King's case for why Donald Trump is not a racist.

The Economy is up

True. But what does that have to do with Trump being a racist? During slavery the plantation economy was booming does that mean slaves should be greatful because massa was doing good? Or more importantly that massa wasn't racist? Come on Ms. King.

The truth is Trump inherited a rising economy that has been rising for the last seven years - dare I say it - under the Obama Administration. Trump hasn't done anything to improve the economy. The stock market and the economy are two different things.

Jobs up in the Black Community

I'm guessing she didn't really mean "in" the black community. Jobs are not up in our community. She really means more black folks are working. Well, yes and no. First, unemployment is down. But the unemployment figure does not include people who have just given up and stopped looking for work. They are just not looking anymore. Second even if unemployment is down among African Americans our unemployment is still nearly twice that of whites. Whites (3.7 percent), Blacks (6.8 percent). Not to mention that this disparity has been virtually the same for more than 50 years.

"Great promise to get people out of jail

who have been unfairly incarcerated...."

Huh? President Trump has done nothing to lead a sane person to believe that people will be getting out of jail. What he has done through Attorney General Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions, is focus on resurrecting the racist war on drugs, promising to go after marijuana possession in states where it is legal and being lenient on white collar crimes. How Ms. King can deduce from the foregoing that there was or is "promise" to get people out of jail because of anything done by Trump or his administration is beyond exaggeration. It is completely baseless. We also know that as a practical matter a promise from Donald Trump is worthless.

Draining The Swamp

Assuming for the sake of the argument that President Trump drained the swamp we have to ask how does that prove that he is not a racist? Fact is that more than 100 former federal lobbyists have found jobs in the Trump administration, despite President Trump’s campaign pledge to drain the swamp, i.e., curtail the power of special interests in Washington.

In short, not a single one of her arguments would prove, even if they were true, that Donald Trump is not a racist. Note that she says that she believes Donald Trump is not a racist. Problem is as a reported member of the religious right and an evangelist she likely also believes in and I will get in trouble for this but I'm going to say it anyway. Ms. King is an evangelist and reportedly a member of the religious right. As such she also believes that women can be impregnated by God, that men can be raised from the dead and physically ascend into heaven, and return more that 2,000 years later to raise all the dead believers from their graves. Sorry Alveda we don't we don't believe you.
