Did you witness the charade called parliamentary procedure that transpired in the United States Senate during the Sessions hearing? Senator Kamala Harris, junior Senator from California was strong armed by Sen. John Mccain and Committee Chairman Richard M. Burr of North Carolina. That's what I said strong armed! Senator Harris is a former prosecutor and I must admit that I do not care much for prosecutors former or current since it is they who are primarily responsible for the mass incarceration of African Americans both at the charging and sentencing phases. But the Sister was kicking ass and taking names. She did it eloquently and forcefully. She was speaking truth to power with gusto. Just for the record John McCain was out of order. First he was not a member of the committee. Second, he interrupted Senator Harris. Even Chairman Burr told McCain “Senators will allow the chair to control the hearing," a polite way of telling McCain he was out of order. So why did this happen? Some argue that Senator Harris is a strong black woman and they fear strong black women. Maybe. She is certainly strong. Certainly black. But I think its just that Jeff Sessions, the Attorney General of the United States was getting his ass kicked and was showing the world how unqualified he is for the position he holds. Mr. Sessions who had been the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama for 12 years said "I'm not able to be rushed this fast. It makes me nervous.” Senator Harris had five whole minutes and in less than that she rattled the Attorney General so bad the good ole boys had to rescue him. Perhaps more importantly Senator McCain knew that Sessions was getting ready to spill the beans about where he got the nonsense defense that he was protecting the president's right to use executive privilege in the future should he choose to invoke it! Huh? Thank you Senator Harris for showing us how it is done. Fearless, courageous and right.
